Unconditionally
It's your turn
~ Bobbie Lee Anderson (Artist)
Queen Latifah called her “a monster talent,” and Maury Povich said she was “the true Queen of Soul.” These are just a couple of the reactions to Bobbie Lee Anderson over the years from artists, show business professionals and fans alike. Blessed with a six-plus octave range, Bobbie is a unique musical talent, singing with stars ranging from Sinatra to Snoop. And, yes, she has even sung at Carnegie Hall. Bobbie is no stranger to portraying the ‘queens’ of music, whether it’s taking on the “other” “Queen of Soul,” Aretha Franklin, or “Queen of the Blues,” Dinah Washington. After an acclaimed performance of Aretha Franklin at a Motown Revue in Huntington Beach, Bobbie expanded the role into a one-woman tribute with “All Sides of the Queen of Soul: A Tribute to Aretha Franklin,” which she will debut in Long Beach. Bobbie previously starred in the critically acclaimed “What A Difference A Day Makes,” a one-woman show she wrote and produced about Dinah Washington, which she performed at numerous venues. She is also at work on a show that will incorporate the lives and music of jazz legends Sarah Vaughan and Nina Simone. Throughout her career, Bobbie has been widely recognized. She was twice nominated by Black Music Awards as Best Gospel Female Artist. She was also nominated for Outstanding Actress in the NAACP theater awards for her debut performance of Dinah Washington. The Los Angeles NAACP also nominated Bobbie as Most Outstanding Female Vocalist and she was twice musical director for the awards ceremony. She also received a certificate of recognition from L.A. Mayor Eric Garcetti for her album “Everyday Living.” She is currently at work on a third album, tentatively entitled “In Spite Of,” which builds of her previous albums, “Everyday Living” and “Unconditionally.” A native of Omaha, Neb., Bobbie started singing professionally at the age of 12. Bobbie has produced, directed and starred in shows throughout the community, including several solo concerts and as a vocalist for the Huntington Beach Symphony Orchestra. She has also sung for the Dodgers, Lakers and Clippers, doing the National Anthem before games and singing at luncheons hosted by the clubs. A graduate of UCLA. Bobbie’s diversity extends through numerous genres as a performer, songwriter, musician, teacher, coach and producer. She has performed in venues from the Bellagio in Las Vegas to small community churches. For the past 12 years she has hosted a radio spot called “Inspirational Breakthrough” on WASC 1530-AM radio in Spartanburg, S.C. Bobbie starred in a version of the Broadway production of “Ain't Behavin',” in the role popularized by Nell Carter, and toured for more than two years with the production. Bobbie was the musical director of the television special “A Gospel Christmas,” for two years and was also a featured performer with an inspiring rendition of “Ave Maria.” Bobbie is also accomplished on musical instruments such as piano, guitar, glockenspiel, organ, drums and trumpet. She is the musical director at several Southern California churches. An ordained minister, the spiritual side of Bobbie's life is important as well. She endeavors to be a positive influence and inspire youth and seniors in diverse communities and “men of every birth.”

In “What A Difference A Day Makes,” Bobbie Lee Anderson re-creates the music, life and tumultuous times of late jazz-blues icon Dinah Washington. From humble beginnings, Washington became one of the top artists of her time, all the while battling her demons – drinking, gambling, weight problems, domestic abuse and her dark complexion. And always searching for elusive love in all the wrong places with all the wrong men.
Among the signature songs the made Washington a cross-over hit were “What A Difference A Day Makes,” “Unforgettable,” “All of Me,” and “This Bitter Earth.” – Greg Mellen
